33 Bible Verses for Evangelism

There are more than 1.6 billion people in the world who have never heard about Jesus. Evangelism is a crucial tool for introducing these people to the gospel of Jesus Christ and sharing God's love with them. The following Bible verses for evangelism provide us with the motivation and instructions we need to share the good news about Jesus Christ with others.

Evangelism is the practice of spreading the good news about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and helping others come to faith in him. Evangelism involves sharing stories and scripture from the Bible, sharing our personal story of salvation, praying for those who don’t have faith in Christ, and inviting them into a saving relationship with him. An evangelist is someone who seeks out opportunities to spread the good news and equips others to do the same (Ephesians 4:11-12).

Why Is Evangelism Important?

The Bible tells us that we are all sinful people in need of God's redemption (Romans 3:23). The consequence of our sin is death and eternal damnation (Revelation 21:8). There is nothing we can do apart from putting our faith in Jesus to save us from sin. We are dependent upon God’s grace to save us (Ephesians 2:8-9).

When we share our faith with others it gives them an opportunity to hear about God’s plan of salvation through his son, Jesus Christ (John 14:6). When we engage in evangelism we serve as a witness to the power of God (John 6:33) and introduce people to the one who can save us from our sin (John 3:16-17).

How Do I Share The Gospel Of Jesus Christ With Someone I Love?

Pray for guidance before you start speaking about your faith or inviting your loved one to accompany you on this spiritual journey. Pray that God will open their eyes to the knowledge of Him, and soften their hearts to be receptive to His grace (Ephesians 1:17-18).

You may want to start off by simply sharing what you believe - telling personal stories or experiences which illustrate how following God has positively impacted your life. This way it becomes easier for people to see how much God loves us.

Most importantly, God speaks to us through his word. God’s word can bring about conviction of sin, and convince us of our need for God’s grace. Share scripture that helps people to understand that salvation comes from God, and that we receive God’s grace by putting our faith in Jesus. Only faith in Jesus can save us from sin and the destruction it causes in our lives.

A Biblical Model for Evangelism

Luke 10:1-12

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.

And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.

Carry no money bag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.

And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.

Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’

But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’

I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.”
